One last note before I go to bed. I'm sure a lot of bronies would like everyone to vote on the videos that come in, and help select a final candidate. We can't do that for two reasons, one practical, one a matter of privacy.
We're intentionally having people submit their videos through unshared YouTube links, so that we don't end up with hundreds of versions of the ad being viewed by the world before it even airs on TV. It would dramatically reduce the impact. We'll probably show a rough cut or finished version at one or more conventions this summer, so bronies will get a chance to see it before it airs. But having the entire world in on the process is too much.
Secondly, if we do select someone, they get the background check from Tarturus. If we had publicly voted, people would know who had won, and therefore who got background checks. If one of them comes back red-flagged, everyone would know, and we consider that something that should be private to the people we check.
Finally, as I've said from the start, making a great artistic product (and commercials are a form of art) requires a vision, not a committee. There will be lots of qualified people in on the decision, just not the entire herd.
